Welcome to my personal nutrition and fitness blog! Find weight loss and exercise tips as well as my helpful articles and product reviews.

This book is a god send for me.  And I say that because 1.  I don’t really have time to spend in the kitchen to cook, 2.  I really don’t like to cook and 3.  I’m into easy food and I have no problem with eating the same stuff over and over.  The book was created and written by Jennifer Cornbleet.  Do not confuse this book with other raw food recipe books because this book is not one with gourmet recipes in it.  You may want to go for a title by Ani Phyo if you want to put some fancy dishes together.  I bought my copy from Amazon.com.

The guys and girls over on the Raw Foodies team on SparkPeople recommended I  pick up this book since I am a newbie at eating raw.  I am so glad this book exists because I can make the simplest, healthiest meals in like five minutes and be out the door.  From all major meals and snacks, this book makes it so easy to stay on track diet wise.

I am totally in love with this book.  In the book you will find that most of the recipes in the book are easy, have short ingredient lists and are very tasty.

The book is divided up into sections making it easy to navigate through it.  Here are the sections:  kitchen setup (equipment, staples, condiments - basic items you should have available to you on a daily basis -, a weekly grocery list), breakfast (juices,  fruit, cereal), dinner & lunch which includes sample meal plans (dips/sauces, soups, salads, salad dressings, sandwiches, entrees, side dishes,  three sections of desserts - yum), glossary &  resources and an index. The book has a total of 199 pages and is a light weight paperback so you can just throw it in your bag and take it with you wherever.  I leave mine in the car so I’ll have it if I hit a grocery store.

The author also explains the “Raw Food Basics” like how to soak raw nuts and seeds, how to soak dried foods, how to store/ripen produce, how to warm up your raw food, how to follow the recipes, how to measure ingredients, how to prepare raw foods in advance (for some recipes you will need to do this - I’m lazy so I avoid those recipes), she also included a paragraph about easy snacking and best of all how to clean your produce.  She gets into the tools and appliances you need when working with raw food.

Lastly, in the very beginning of the book she goes into the “whys” of eating raw food.  It’s short, sweet and to the point and I love this book because mostly everything explained is short, sweet and to the point.  There are lots of recipes inside to choose from, not all of them include an appliance or anything complicated to make them so there are no excuses really to  not go raw.

My diet is currently at 90% raw (working on becoming 100%) and I’m going to keep it like that for the next three months.  I have a lot of fat I still need to shed and from the looks of it I’ll be shedding quite a bit in that time frame. Anyway, get the book and if you don’t like it then return it.  This book is the easiest raw food books and recipes to understand…believe me, I’ve read many at the Barnes & Noble.  I will not be buying another book about raw food because everything about going raw is in this book.  But don’t take my word for it.

Why do I choose to eat mostly raw? Eating raw makes me feel better physically, keeps the fat off, give me more energy, is a natural detox / cleanse, tastes great /refreshing, aids in consistent weight loss and/or maintenance, is light / not heavy and I find that eating raw is easy on my finances.  It costs more to buy processed and convenience junk in boxes and it’s unhealthy….do the math.  You cannot put a price on your health.

  1. I just wanted to say that I love this post! I have been researching vegan and raw foods diets for about 2 years now. Still not ready to take the plunge, but I have added tons of raw and vegan recipes into my daily menu. Good luck and keep us updated on how the raw thing is working for you!!!
