Insanity is boring…

charile-brown

…and yes,  that’s how I feel about it.  All of the jumping is non-sense and unnecessary.  I guess I don’t have a tolerance for basic physical education high school cardio exercises anymore – don’t think I ever did.  Plyo is my thing, but not like that.   I just don’t think they are “fun”, challenging of course, but not fun.  I need fun in order to get through a workout.  I like “tough” and “fun”.

Now, if Insanity was setup more creatively, non-drill like, then maybe it would keep my attention.  But that’s not why I stopped doing Insanity for the most part.

Here is reason number 1:  I just don’t like Beachbody rotations…there is no real reason why, but I just don’t like it.  For some reason I don’t like doing the same workouts often.  I have two shelves full of workout DVDs and I rarely do the same workout in a four week period ever.  Why would I do  it now and do Insanity.  I had the same issue with CLX (Chalean Extreme) and I’m guessing that I should just NOT even look into doing P90X anymore.   I must have been insane for even attempting this program since I know what I like and what I don’t like – silly me – jumping on the “bandwagon”.  Damn all of those Insanity enablers, but then again I should only be blaming myself.   OK I take that back!

The second reason is that Insanity is not the program, right now, that will help me to reach the goal I’m after at this point.  I need more strength based workouts and less cardio.  That explains it all.

Don’t get me wrong!  It’s not that I won’t do any Insanity workouts ever again because I will and the workouts are amazing.  I will throw one in every now and then when I need a good, basic cardio workout.  I think Shaun T is the man, but the entire system is just not for me.  It would be nice to see all Beach Body instructors come out with a 3 disc workout that you can do any time and just pump them out ever 9 months instead of putting out these massive programs that most people will only stay on for, at most, two weeks before getting bored with it.  This is just my personal opinion about Insanity and why the 60 day program is not for me.  But I get it.  The more DVDs they put together and call a “system” the more money they can charge and make.

Now, the program broken up works for me.  Like next week I’m going to throw in one of the workouts from Insanity into my program to mix things up a bit.  So I’m looking at these DVDs as stand alones.  My mind likes it when I look at it that way.  I am more motivated to give it a try this way.  I like the Insanity Fit Test a lot so I’ll be doing those on my own every month to beat out  my personal best.  I think that’s fun!

Will I keep the Beach Body ads on my site?  Yes, for sure!  Just because I don’t like the way their systems are setup doesn’t mean that others will feel the same way as I do.  I like Beach Body the company a lot, but I wish they would also target the audience I’m in.  Cathe was able to do it with the “different workout every day” approach.  And it worked for me!  She had me believing I was doing a different workout everyday and my mind needs to think that in order to complete the program and I did.  STS is the only long-term “system” I can do without blinking twice, but that’s a different story.  I will be starting STS 90 Day rotation on June 1.  I’ll talk about that later.

Haha good for you girl! Now, if you’ve reconciled the idea of using the workouts on your schedule, maybe you don’t have to rule out P90X! It has AMAZING strength training workouts. Although part of the beauty for me is seeing the progress in each weight workout, maybe you can still repeat the less frequently. Legs & Back is every week for the whole time (Except for the 4th week in each month, which is recovery from ST). But all the others are 3 weeks in a row each DVD and then for the final month you alternate month 1 and month 2 ST workouts. So if you just subsituted something else for some of the Legs & Back, you might not mind it…. ;)

I love that you own your opinions!! Your body is lucky b/c you can give it what it needs!!

Thanks for sharing. I never bought the tape, because I too did not like P.E. classes in school. So yeah, I had a feeling it would be like that, but know that I hear it from a dedicated enthusiast of workout tapes, I too will not be buying it.
    Thanks for another great blog,

I agree! I loved the Insanity work outs, but not enough to do them after the 60days regularly… I love Jillians 30-day shred too, and do that every couple of weeks, I also love her Yoga Meltdown. I didnt like P90x, but just because Tony (or whatever his name is) was so obnoxious!!! But the workouts were all so different from eachother (unlike Insanity) and it will give you more of the strenght training you are looking for! Good Luck

Insanity is much harder than P90X.

I’ve gone through P90X and have gotten awesome results with it. I decided to try Insanity to focus on my core and cardio, but I couldn’t take it for the same reasons: it’s just so boring and repetitive.

P90X is a lot more fun and light-hearted, while still pushing you to your limit (well, it’s always up to you to push yourself, no matter the workout). There’s less repetition, although some of the workouts you’ll be doing every week. However, you don’t have to do a single exercise like 5 times like you do in Insanity. The P90X Plyometrics, for example, features so much more variety from Insanity’s Max Plyo. But again, the Insanity one is tougher, at least for me.

I highly recommend P90X. Tony is also much more likable than Shaun T. I feel like Shaun is putting on a persona, while Tony is just being the goofball that he is.

I agree with you that Insanity is much harder than P90X, but in my opinion, the two cannot be compared. The systems themselves and the goals for each are very different from each other. Two different animals. A couple of my friends who made it through Insanity were not happy with their results esthetically (fat loss was not incredible for all the work that was performed on a consistent basis) and calorie burn per workout was minimal (something like 230 calories burned per workout – not good!), but were impressed with the increase in the tolerance for being able to complete high intensity workouts during a longer time period. I have to go by what they tell me because I will never do this program a whole. I get bored with it and after a week of it I’m ready for something else. That’s one of my flaws unfortunately.

I like Insanity for individual workouts versus the “system” because it is good for my heart and I do train for endurance as well as looks so that’s a plus.

The point is…ha…I can get the same results, if not more (increase in cardio endurance, agility, increase in flexibility, decrease in fat burn), from just doing regular 12-20 minute high intensity interval training and high intensity multi-joint circuits without killing myself with Insanity. However, I do throw in an Insanity workout here and there to test my mad skillz. Ha!

Thanks for chiming in! Appreciate it!
