So Many Books to Read, So Little Time

Before I went to go to court yesterday to dispute a speeding ticket (long story, but I got it resolved WOOT), I stopped over to Barnes & Noble to check out some of the books I was looking to buy out. I always go to the book store to look over books that I’m interested in before I go to order them on Amazon because Amazon is cheaper.

So for some diet and fitness titles I took a look at I decided on purchasing a few books that were on my list. Here is the list and then I’m going to explain why I’m going to give these titles a chance.

The Raw Food Lifestyle (Ruth Ann Russo, Phd)
The Kind Diet (Silverstone)
The Eat-Clean Diet for Men (Kennedy and Reno)
South Beach Diet (Agatson – hardcover)
The Woman Triathlete (Gandolfo)
Bodybuilding 101 (Wolff)

The Raw Food Lifestyle by Ruth Ann Russon, PhD

I found that this book gives a good explanation as to why “eating raw” is crucial to building a good healthy diet foundation as well as the long term effects of eating raw. This book is not geared towards Vegetarians only, but to everyone who wants to acquire a better, healthier dieting lifestyle. If you want to read the logic behind eating raw then this book is for you. There are also loads of other books this author recommends in addition to her own book, like Raw Dieters Detox (I think that’s what it’s called, I did see that on the shelf too).

The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone

Besides the constant banter of animal cruelty that goes on in this book, the book does have substance. The book describes Alicia’s diet and why everyone should acquire her way of life when it comes to dieting. The book also gives good tips on how to become a Vegetarian and adapting Vegetarian ways into your diet. The book also has pictures of Alicia in her childhood and also adult photos. The book flows well and it’s very pleasant to read from the little I did read throughout the chapters.

Eat-Clean Diet for Men by Robert Kennedy and Tosca Reno

I should have bought this baby long ago, but I thought my Eat-Diet Expanded Version was suffecient enough for my husband to follow along with me. I can’t say enough how the Eat-Clean Diet Expanded Version and the Eat-Clean Diet for Men are two totally different animals. OK so of course they are, but what I’m trying to say that it has everything in it that the Eat-Clean Diet Expanded Version has in it WITH more information that pertains to men only.

The book addresses sexual issues and how clean eating can help with that to how to build muscle to getting rid of that gut (there is a pic of a really big gut in it ha!) to the recipes that appeal more to men than women, etc. The entire book is colorful and full of pictures like the original Eat-Clean diet book so it will keep his attention.

South Beach Diet by Dr. Arthur Agatston

The book of all dieting books. The one book that help me drop 50lbs in 26 weeks. The book that taught me how to eat right and now I can’t stop. Ha! I just decided to get this book in the hardcover because it is a book that I refer to A LOT when I don’t have Internet around to look up the food lists and such. Everybody knows that I love this diet and that it works…it worked for me! Must have it in a form where it won’t break down from opening, closing and throwing in my bag. My paperback is quite damaged from the abuse.

The Woman Triathlete by Christina Gandolfo

Because the other “triathlon” books didn’t keep my attention or didn’t look interesting I decided that this book was the one for me because I am a woman (it’s totally targeted toward me and my needs) and I want to learn everything about triathlon training and how to do train myself for them. This book has training schedules in it along with tips on how to become a successful triathlete in simple words and that’s what I need…simple! I like how the book is setup as far as structure. It’s broken down by each thing you need to know about triathlons like how to eat, tips, training schedules, how to train, its purpose, etc.

I will give a more in depth review about it after I read this one and after I read a second book like it so that I’ll have something to compare it to.

Bodybuilding 101 by Robert Wolff

I was going to go with Arnold’s Bodybuilding Encyclopedia or the Men’s Health Encyclopedia, but those books are way to big to lug around and they cost a lot. Love all of the pictures in them though.

I chose Bodybuilding 101 because it gives me all the information I need about pure bodybuilding and nothing more – thankfully, it’s smaller and easier to lug around. The same info in the encyclopedia is in this book, but it is a compact version. I’m don’t know if this book is remedial or not or tells me what I already know (I hope not), but from what I viewed going through it at the book store, it looked pretty neat. I’m kind of looking for a book that can teach me more about figure bodybuilding versus bodybuilding to just build muscle and becoming a fit person.

Let me get on over to Amazon to haul up my books!!!
