So, I gave myself a major chop! I didn’t take a before pic because I want to show you guys that you grow and maintain a good head of hair when you’re exercising on a consistent basis. I do not go to the hair dresser and I haven’t been since I was a little girl, but I was always able to grow my hair long. I always end up chopping it off and putting a weave…not sure why I do that. I know! Wigs are fun?? I love wigs, by the way – both full and half plus pony tails which I rock on a daily basis.
OK…here is my start pic. I chopped my hair off last night, relaxed it, thoroughly washed it, deep conditioned it, moisturized it, blew dry it out and re-moisturized again. I will list all the products and equipment I use for my hair in my next post about my hair. I will try to do hair updates a couple times a month and I will post a pic once a month showing you my progress.

I am giving myself from the beginning of Fall of 2009 to the end of Spring 2010 to grow all of my hair back so that means my hair should be touching my shoulders or my pony tail should be up to six or seven inches in length. Right now, my pony tail is about three and a half inches long. I did not cut my hair even because if I did, I wouldn’t be able to make a ponytail.
Before I got into exercising on a consistent basis I was washing my hair maybe every two weeks. Since I’ve been working out consistently and I will be for the rest of my life, I find that I’m washing my hair every two-three days depending on how bad I sweat. If my hair gets really sweaty and feels icky I’ll just go ahead with my hair care ritual. I use a deep conditioner every time and moisturize well. You cannot keep dry hair when you’re working out because if you don’t moisturize it and you let the sweat dry in your hair it will break your hair off because the salt in sweat takes away moisture and it makes your hairy stinky too.
I also try not to mess with my hair too much and what I mean by that is by not combing and brushing through it much. I will brush my hair (from the root to the ends) once a day and that is usually in the morning and that is a very very light brush. I moisturize it and then brush it up into a ponytail and then put my ponytail piece on it. I like to braid my pony tail and use a hair pin to hold it down to my scalp and then apply my ponytail piece. I really make sure to moisturize my roots and ends thoroughly so it will prevent breaking.
I decided to put this hair information in my fitness blog and not in my beauty blog because I believe it fits here better. I don’t see too much about hair care when working out in fitness blogs at all. I’ve never seen it. I also posted it on here to let women of color, who believe that they cannot workout on a regular basis because it will ruin their hair, know that that is simply not the case if you give your hair some time, love and care. You have to keep up with your hair in order for it to look nice, to grow healthy and to thrive. I will show you it can be done.
I’m going to end it here…again, next post will be pics of the products and equipment I use to do my hair. I will even show you my ponytail off my hair. I ordered a new half wig and I’ll show you that too.
Take care!
