Day 1, Week 1 Couch to 5K Done!

…on January 19the and what a BIG accomplishment for me that was. Big.

I completed my day 1, week 1 of C25k (5 mins warm up, 60 mins run, 90 mins walk for a total of 20 mins) and I must say that it wasn’t as tough on me as I thought. I was able to do the off and on running without catching pain in my lungs and in my back. It felt good actually besides all of the snow and snow flakes that where covering me as I was training.

At the same time, I used my Garmin personal trainer for the first time too and it told me when the first minute of my warm up was over and I road that out for four minutes instead of five. Then I hit the lap button and started my program. The Garmin told me when to start running and when to stop. Awesome!

I had some trouble setting up my Garmin for C25K, but I figured it out. So, for those of you who need help with this then this is how you setup your Garmin Forerunner 305 to prompt you to switch from running to walking.

Question:

How to program Garmin Forerunner 305 for Couch to 5K for Day 1, Week 1?

Answer:

1. Press Mode > Training > Workouts > Interval > choose Time/ Rest / Time.

2. Set the “time” to 1:00 (this is your 60 sec run), “rest time” to 1:30 (this is your 90 sec walk), “rep” to 8 (this is to set for a total of 20 mins), check “Warm Up & Cool Down. Select “Done?” and the screen will change over into the lap screen.

3. When ready, press Start/Stop button to start your warm up.

4. After you are done with your 5 minute warm up (by watching the time), press the “Lap” button (the screen will change over into your workout screen). Garmin will tell you to start running for 1:00.

5. You will know when your minute is up because your Garmin will beep a few times and it will flash to start resting for 1:30. It will count down from 8 intervals down to 1.

6. Your Garmin will then take you into your cool down and by default.

7. When you are totally done with your workout, press “Mode” > “Training” > “Stop Workouts”and your Garmin will take you to your stats/reports on screen by shuffling up and down buttons.

8. To view your calories burned, time, pace and distance, press the “Mode” button, select “History”, then “Running”, then “By Day” and select today’s date or the date you want to view and VOILA!

You have just recorded your stats from doing your Couch to 5k workout!

NOTES
You can also setup your program for any day whether, you are in Week 1 or Week 4 of C25K. Just follow the instructions and alter the numbers to fit where you are today.

Before I sign off I wanted to say…CONGRATULATIONS PRESIDENT OBAMA AND GOD BLESS AMERICA! Today is your day sir!
